French 1 is an introductory course designed for middle to upper school students with little or no prior experience in French. Students develop foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through a structured study of essential grammar and practical vocabulary. Instruction is supported by a core textbook and enriched with stories, videos, songs, and guided conversation to help students use French in meaningful contexts. Throughout the year, students are introduced to France through its iconic landmarks, foods, and aspects of French culture, helping them connect the language to the people and places where it is spoken.

This course is intended for students in grades 8–10, with beginning students in grades 11–12 also welcome.

How to Enroll

  1. Explore our courses!

First, read the available course descriptions, noting prerequisites, target grades, and course objectives. If you think your student is prepared for the course, go ahead and register. After registration, a placement assessment may be provided to students, depending on the course and the student’s previous enrollment with Scholé Academy. Registration is finalized when the student’s placement assessment has been returned by the course instructor with placement confirmation.

  2. Double-check the course section dates and times.

Make sure they don’t conflict with other activities in your schedule or other courses you are purchasing. Our system will not catch double-bookings!

Our Assistant to the Principal will be in touch with you after your enrollment to help you with next steps, including any placement evaluations that may be required for your course selections.

This registration will be finalized when the student’s placement assessment has been returned by the course instructor with placement confirmation.
