In this course we will work on using our listening ears to hear the beauty of God’s creation, and on growing our love of music!  Students will begin to develop their musicianship through recorder and song, and the study of basic music theory including note value, rhythm and scales.  We will cover topics in classical music appreciation, music history and Orthodox music tradition.  At the conclusion of the year students will be able to play melodies on the recorder, including some of the melodies they hear in church, and read simple pieces of music.  They will also complete a music journal of their observations and practice in basic music composition.  The course may include projects on subjects of particular interest and will definitely include listening to music outside of class.  Students should be comfortable playing or singing in the company of their peers.
