Nicole Saur-Mrs.

Mrs. Nicole Saur

Instructor

Biography

Beginning her undergraduate work as a Music Performance major on classical guitar, Nicole changed majors half-way through and graduated with her BA in Youth Ministry and a Minor in Biblical and Theological Studies at Gordon College. Before and during her MDiv studies (at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), she served as a Hebrew tutor, Youth Director, and USAF Chaplain Candidate. She found the Orthodox Church during that time, nearly twenty years ago, while serving on a ministry planning team whose task it was to research and imitate the New Testament liturgy.

Today, Nicole and her husband have five children, and they homeschool on their mountain-top homestead in Virginia. Homesteading is an active part of their homeschool, where the children learn gardening and animal husbandry alongside their usual studies. She particularly loves weaving together studies of the natural world with literature, history, art, music and the liturgical calendar and arts, and as such, she published a series of copywork books, with a distinctly Orthodox liberal arts curriculum in the works. Nicole taught at her family's favorite homeschool co-op last year, introducing high school students to Dostoevsky and Chaucer, and bringing elementary students into the worlds of George MacDonald and Shakespeare. She can also be found studying and teaching Greek, directing her homeschool co-op choir, arm wrestling her kids over their boisterous breakfast table, or watching the family's Toulouse geese cut the grass when she just wants to relax.
