August 12: Welcome and Setup
What’s going on?
- Welcome letters from instructors: You should receive a welcome letter from the instructor of each class you are enrolled in by August 19. If you have not received a welcome letter by this time, first check your spam folder and then contact your instructor directly.
- Canvas course enrollment (student): You will enroll in your Canvas courses using a unique Canvas URL provided by your instructor in the welcome letter. You should not create a Canvas account for yourself apart from this process.
- Parent/observer account creation (parents): If you want to keep track of your student’s progress, or keep track of multiple students, you can create an Observer account in Canvas. You will create your account using a unique student pairing code provided by the instructor during orientation week or soon thereafter.
- Evaluations for recent enrollments: If you recently enrolled, your student may require an evaluation to confirm placement. You will need to coordinate with the class instructor to determine if a placement evaluation is required and, if so, to complete it.

I need to enroll in a class quickly. How can I do that?
- The quickest way to register is through our website. Find the course you are interested in and make your purchase.
- Once you make the purchase the admin staff and the instructor will be notified of your enrollment and will work to bring your student into the class as quickly as possible.
- Typical turnaround time is 2 business days from the time you register to the time that you get access to the class.
- There is an add/drop period from September 6 through September 19. During this time students may enroll, transfer, and withdraw from classes and still receive a half-tuition refund per course. After September 19, no refunds will be given.

I just enrolled in a class. What's next?
- The instructor of your class will be notified of your enrollment and will reach out to you with next steps. From here on out, the instructor will be your primary point of contact for the course.
- If you do not hear from your instructor by August 22 (or within 1 business day if it’s after the 22nd), you may need to contact them directly.
- If a placement evaluation is required, the instructor will initiate that through email. Enrollments are not finalized until placement evaluations have been completed and evaluated by the instructor.
- You should receive a welcome email from the instructor with information on how to join Canvas.
- On the Canvas course there will be a module called “Welcome to Class! Let’s Get Started.” This module will contain everything you need to get oriented and up to speed in the class.
How do I transfer or withdraw from a class?
- First get in touch with the instructor of your class to discuss your intention to transfer or withdraw from their class.
- Then contact us to request your transfer or withdraw. Typical turnaround time for processing these requests is 2 business days.
I have concerns about one of my classes. Who should I talk to?
- As stated in our handbook, “We encourage our community of parents, students, and instructors to operate under the Matthew 18 Principle.” If you have a concern with one of your classes, the first thing you should do is talk directly to the instructor of the class. Hopefully you are able to work through the concern together. If you still have concern after meeting with the instructor, please reach out to your principal.
