History Timeline is a once-a-week, year-long supplemental course that helps students become visually and experientially familiar with the time periods, dates, and major events of history.
Designed to correlate with A Child’s History of the World course offered in Lower School twice a week, History Timeline focuses on dates and events (while A Child’s History of the World focuses on stories, narrations, and projects). History Timeline can be taken as a standalone course, but it functions best in tandem with any narrative course of history that students are currently taking.
A typical class will begin with prayer and review. Games, jingles, and flashcards will emphasize chronology and memory. Two events will be highlighted during each class. Students will fill out the written portion of the events in their sketchbook. Class time will end with map work and prayer. Out of class work will require students to draw or color a picture of the two events and then upload those pages from their sketchbook. In addition, students will take a quiz using their flashcards and sketchbook every week to help them memorize the dates and events.
Required Materials: Books and supplies are not included in the purchase of the course. These resources are listed to help inform your decision-making as you make course selections and build your course schedule. Please reach out to the instructor if you have any questions about materials.
Recommended but not required:
Tisha Frost has been teaching in a variety of settings over the last 20 years after following one of the best pieces of advice she was ever given, “Be who God created you to be and you will set the world on fire” - St. Catherine of Siena. This inspired her to study both history and theology during her undergraduate years. She obtained a B.A. in American Studies, with a minor in Theology from the University of Notre Dame. She also holds a Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame, specializing in Middle School and High School Social Studies. Through her experiences of teaching many students, including her own children, she has seen the need for restful education that is focused on the true, good, and beautiful.
Tisha resides in Northern Minnesota with her husband and seven children. When she has a moment to herself, she enjoys children’s literature, British mysteries, good movies, and baking.
