Colloquia Latīna!
with Maria Overy, Scholé Academy Latin Instructor
Open to Scholé Academy and St. Raphael School families, see details below
venīte, venīte!
Why do we study Latin? Is it the language, or how it’s taught, that’s dead? All language is a gift from God and is meant to be spoken and heard, not only written and read. During these colloquia students will have the chance to experience the Latin language directly, through dialogues, stories, and images. We will be using pedagogical techniques drawn from the writings of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance scholars and saints, and rehabilitated in the 20th century by the likes of W. H. D. Rouse and Hans Orberg.
These colloquia are aimed at Latin Alive level 2 students and higher, and any teachers with a basic knowledge of Latin. Look out for the introductory video & handout coming in the next newsletter.
If you would like to attend please email: Miss Maria Overy [email protected] to confirm your place.
Maria has studied at the Accademia Vivarium Novum in Rome, where Latin is lived and spoken as the only language. She co-founded and taught for the Oxford Latinitas Project, which teaches Latin using the Orberg method.
