A poem begins in delight and ends in wonder.
–Robert Frost
Welcome, poets and peers!
Welcome to the Scholé Academy Poetry Club! This year, students in grades 6-12 who are enrolled in a course with Scholé Academy or St. Raphael School are invited to discuss poetry and share their own poems in a safe, supportive, and inspiring space. Over the summer, I met with former students from my poetry courses. I was overjoyed when asked if we could continue meeting to share and connect. Thus, the idea for a poetry club was given its wings!
I’m excited to share that club members will have access to a discussion board for what I like to call “Shares & Cares” in Canvas. We also will meet twice per quarter for an “open mic” session, where club members will be invited to share their latest poems, recite a favorite poet’s work, or simply listen to and support the poetry readings of their peers!
As Christine Perrin says in our poetry textbook The Art of Poetry, poetry needs to be read aloud. Our connection with poetry can also be deepened by engaging in rich discussion with our peers. My club vision is to provide a forum for our members to do this with delight and joy while making new friends!
Please reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any questions or are interested in joining us, so I can add you to my mailing list.
